Progress!

Move-in day is fast approaching, and the guest bath is looking better everyday! No paint on the walls yet, but the tile is up, and it is sooooo puuuurty.
.
Work has now begun on the master bath. WOO HOO! Here is what we started with:
.
If you are a guy looking at that photo, I'm sure you're thinking, "What's the prob?" Well, sir, the prob is - SISTA NEEDS SOME COUNTER SPACE. As you can see, the existing bathroom only had a pedestal sink, a toilet, and a shower. All are lovely, but, to create a little more workable space, the pedestal sink is going bye-bye, and we are adding a small vanity in it's place. We're also pushing out the opposite wall to put in a bigger vanity. Guess which one will be mine. :)
.
Last but not least on the latest improvements - the refrigerator! Take note of the original.
.
Don't get me wrong, I love the size of her and that she has the freezer on the bottom. She also has the unexpected bonus of doubling as a full-length mirror. We weren't ready to let her go, so we have now nestled her into her own little retirement home (aka closet) where she can rest peacefully and only be called upon as needed. Bless her.
.
In her place, is my new best friend:
.
I find it odd the amount of love I feel for an appliance, but nonetheless I do love it so. When did I get so domestic?? Next thing you know, I'll be clipping coupons and sharing recipes, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
.
We are in the HOME stretch now! The big move is next weekend, and I can't wait to share pictures of the finished bathroom projects and some new and refinished hardwoods!! I am so excited to move in and get settled! You can't tell, can you???

Rotten Luck

It's almost been a week since the house became ours, and we've encountered our first "surprise." As I mentioned in my previous post, we are making a few adjustments before moving in. One of those is updating the tile in the guest bathroom. Here is what we started with...
.

.
Mind you, the original plan was only to slap a little paint on the walls, update the tile, and put in new sink and tub/shower fixtures. The demo started yesterday, and apparently it's going to be a teensy bit more labor intensive than we thought. When the workers started pulling up the old tile on the floor, they discovered...wait for it...
.
.
A completely rotten subfloor. Awesome. This basically means that the wood AND the tub have to be replaced before they can even start on the tile. UGH! I am choosing to focus on the fact that, had we not decided to have this work done, we might not have known that the floor was rotten. It really could've been a lot worse - like if  a wet naked guest crashed through the ceiling into the living room. I think that would be worse.
.
I am also choosing to focus on what the finished product looks like in my imagination. In case you're interested, here are the particulars.
.
This is the new tile and wall color that will go in (eventually):
.
I had a chance to go into another house that is being finished right now and take a look at the same tile that had already been installed in the master bath shower. PRETTY!
.
We are going to use the same fixtures as the ones above except we will (eventually) have the standard tub/shower combo.
.
Why am I starting to feel like Shelley Long and Tom Hanks in that movie...oh...what was it called?? Oh. Right. Nevermind. Grab your popcorn. Who knows what will happen next.

Home Sweet Home

One of the things that Dude and I have talked about for a long time is how we can't wait to, someday, live in a real honest to goodness house with a fireplace and a fenced yard. Today I can report:
☑ (Honest to Goodness) House
☑ Fireplace
☑ Fenced backyard

Now, granted. This is more Dude's house than it is mine, but it's more fun to call it our house. Don't you think? Of course, you do (unless you're my sweet old-fashioned Dad). Anywho...

We are officially surburbanites (is that a word?) of the OTP variety - the thought of which, in our younger days, would've made both Dude and me break out into hives but now makes us feel all growns up. This will inevitably contribute to an increased level of commuter road rage on my part, but it's a trade off I was definitely willing to make after we fell in love with this little slice of earth. I am excited to explore our new neck of the woods, and I have this unavoidable urge to become a real part of our new community - you know, new church, maybe a tennis team (if I can ever learn how to actually keep my serve within the same zip code), pretending to trim the hedges while spying on the comings and goings of our wacky neighbor (Oh, how I hope there's a wacky neighbor)...THE WHOLE THING.

I really want to chronicle all of the craziness that will surely unfold as we (literally) move forward with this process which will include a few minor "adjustments" before we actually take up residence. For now, here's a little peek at the place we will soon call home...
